Pressed Glass Vanity Jar with Sterling-Trimmed Lid

This vanity jar is late nineteenth century pressed glass and has darkened (as such glass does) to a lavender color. The design is related to "daisy and button." The lid is a wood-like material, possibly gutta-percha, and finished to look like wood. One can see that it is not wood when one looks at the underside. There is a decorative sterling silver Art Nouveau medallion on the top of the jar; the design is a woman's face with flowing hair. The medallion is marked "sterling." This jar measures 4 1/4" in diameter and is 3" tall. The jar and lid are around the same age and so could be original with each other. The jar is in excellent original condition. This unusual piece would grace any collection.
