This American pottery biscuit jar appears to be hand-decorated rather than transfer-ware. The design is of irises and their foliage repeated four different times around the paneled surface of the jar. There is gold decoration accenting the design. The lid has a ceramic handle, unlike English biscuit jars with their metal handles. The jar is from Burroughs & Mountford of Trenton, NJ and dates from around 1880-1890. It measures 6" in diameter and is 6 1/2" tall. It is in excellent original condition, although there is crazing throughout.
