This rectangular cameo pin has a hand cut silver bezel and frame that tests sterling but is not marked. There is a bail attached to the top edge that allows this pin to be worn as a pendant. The shell cameo itself is hand-carved and of superior quality; it is most likely Italian in origin. The subject is Apollo, the Greek sun god, in his chariot. He seems to be attaching two wing-spread eagles instead of horses to his chariot; he is ready to throw a spear. The fittings suggest a date of ca. 1900-1920. It measures 1 1/8" X 1 3/8" X 3/8" thick and weighs .25 oz. It is in excellent original condition.
