This truly gorgeous cotton sateen quilt dates from around 1920. Its design is the traditional wedding quilt "Rose of Sharon" applique done in shades of pink and green. The quilt dates from the 1920's or 1930's and has probably never been used; it certainly has never been washed. (There are some tiny stains visible in one of the photographs.) The applique work and piecing were all done by hand; the quilting is also by hand and measures an expert 8-9 stitches per inch. There is some lovely pattern quilting, such as feather wreaths, decorating the open areas of this quilt. The size is generous; it is a full-size, measuring 76" wide X 102" long. This one is a beauty! It was found in the wealthy northern suburbs of Chicago.
