Woolen "One-Patch" Crib or Baby Comforter

This graphically interesting baby coverlet is about 100 years old. The backing fabric, a colorful cretonne print with birds of paradise, dates from between 1890 and 1920. The backing fabric was brought around to the front and stitched with black thread to form a binding. The coverlet is hand pieced of 2 1/4" squares of different colored woolen fabrics. The back was tied to the front with black thread at each juncture of pieces. This textile would hang effectively in a contemporary, art deco, or country setting. It measures 30" X 42." There is a bit of moth damage but overall the coverlet is in excellent original condition. No repairs have been done.
