Black Velvet Pillow Jacket with Hooked Figural Design
This early twentieth century hooked piece was made from a kit (on the back are color and hooking directions in a foreign language) and is possibly European in origin. The raised needle-worked portions are wool. The back is purple cotton sateen. The female figure looks like a Spanish dancer. All needlework was done by hand. There is artistic variation in stitching and choice of yarns. The workmanship is expert. Such details as the cigarettes lend a quirky element to the characters depicted. The piece is in perfect, never-used condition. There is a zipper-closure at the bottom. The pillow jacket is 18 1/2" X 22." This unique piece would be lovely framed.
