Filet Crochet Scarf or Antimacassar with Camels
This unusual filet crochet scarf featuring camels and palm trees dates from the 1920's. It suggests a trip to Egypt as the inspiration for its creation. The workmanship is excellent; the thread is a fine linen thread. The scarf is a dark ecru color but would probably lighten if washed. This piece is in "as found" condition and is unwashed. There is one small brown stain (shown in the photographs). The piece is an unusual size, 11 1/2" wide but 36" long. It can be used on the back of a sofa as pictured, but it could also be used on a table, or it could be framed. This intriguing piece was found among the things from a Chicago estate.
