Germany Enamel Sterling Silver Orchid Pin

This is a new one for us - never seen before! Ca. 1930s-40s it is a large 3" x 2 3/4", German made brooch.

It is very 3-D with wonderful sparkling marcasites to make it bling. There is a line of marcasites down the larger petals and the stem. It features 3-D stamen that arise from the center giving it a total depth of 1".

The colors are very unusual for these German-made pins which are almost always in shades of blue to yellow or green or chartreuse. The color (what remains) is aqua blue with shades of pink/magenta. Very realistically rendered with folds to the petals and ruffling around the edges.

The pinback is slightly bent but functions perfectly and rests securely in its safety clasp. If you look closely at the photos, you will see that there is a fairly significant amount of missing enamel, but because of the way this flower is done, it seems natural to it - as though it was deliberately executed that way. Of course, a price adjustment has been made to reflect the imperfections.

On the back side there are the words 'Sterling Silver', 'Germany' and a hallmark that looks like a shield with letters inside but even with 10x magnification we cannot identify the mark.

If this pin doesn't sell quickly I might have to keep it - it wears so beautifully!
