Antique Sterling Silver Marechal Niel 1896 Fork by Durgin

This rare, rose strewn pattern dates from 1896 and was manufactured by Durgin. The pattern is called 'Marechal Niel'.

This particular serving piece has been identified as an old-fashioned styled pickle fork. Wouldn't you know! Those Victorians had a serving piece for everything! It looks a lot like a strawberry fork to me but it measures 5 3/4" - a little longer than strawberry forks which are a little shorter (about 5") and don't have tines shaped the same way.

The fork is in excellent, antique condition meaning there is a normal amount of wear visible in the lightening of the Durgin hallmark as well as the rose pattern commensurate with its 115 years of age. Interestingly, on the back of the handle the pattern is extremely detailed such that you can see the deep and intricate chasing of the flowers and leaves.

It has an old English letter "K" monogram with a vertical line through it.
