F&B Foster & Bailey Sterling Silver and Enamel Guilloche Compact

Lovely blue transparent enamel on sterling silver work by Foster & Bailey. Ca. 1920's. The machine-engineered ground is very intricate under the enamel. Very pretty shade of sky blue.

This one includes a tiny mirror and rouge pot on the inside upper lid and the lower part is for powder. Amazingly a paper topped disk remains which has on it the name and artwork of the company that supplied the powder refill (good advertising item!).

Excellent condition (in need of a good polish).

It measures 2 1/8" in diameter and 1/2" deep. Gold washed interior.

Guilloche enamel is really a misnomer. The word 'guilloche' refers to the machine-engineered design under the transparent enamel. A French engineer named 'Guillot' invented the machine that does that work. The enamel work is done by hand.
