Remember this:

Auction catalogs are valuable and affordable reference tools for collectors. They offer us spectacular professional photographs of hundreds of items. Often the descriptions are written by the world's leading specialists in an area of collectible and by providing written documentation of estimated values, it provides us with an appraisal guide. In many cases, these catalogs come with the printout of the auction's results which can be compared to the estimated values. For those areas of collecting which aren't too well-documented, or where the reference books can cost almost as much as one of the items being collected, auction catalogs are especially valuable. It's a lot like bringing the world's museums home to you and at a very affordable price!
