Russian Lacquer Legend Box Handpainted, Papier Mache and Signed Fedoskino Snow Maiden

This oval lidded lacquer box features a handpainted image of the "Snow Maiden". This box was created in 1992 and is part of a collection of boxes we purchased directly from a collector a few years after that. The box is signed in cyrillic and we cannot translate. It is in excellent condition inside and out (the interior is bright red. On the base is a white sticker that says handmade in Russia. Please do not confuse this with "faked" boxes that have printed scenes laminated to a box (you can tell the difference by looking through a magnifier. the printed ones will show tiny little dots like you would see in a newspaper photo. The handpainted ones only show brushstrokes). The Russian lacquer boxes that I am offering are guaranteed to be handpainted (usually with brushes that only have a few hairs). The Fedoskino boxes usuallyy feature a technique using foils that make areas luminesce or look like mother of pearl. This one has areas of silver foil (in the landscape and on her robe). It measures approx. 4 1/4" high x 2 1/4" wide and is approx. 1 1/2" high. We think this is from the Fedoskino school of Russian miniature painting. The boxes you see on my site were part of a large private collection I acquired several years ago and have decided to sell off now.
