Exquisite Elegant Pair of French Armchairs with Extra Wide Shield Backs

These exquisite chairs are framed in walnut and have recently been reupholstered to my specifications. Because they are extra wide in the seat and the back, they are extra comfortable!

They have a very pleasing form and presence. Wonderful shield-shaped backs. Heavy in weight as well. Substantial. Truly superb. The person I purchased them from said that the chairs were purchased in the late 1940's in New York City from their interior decorator. She did not know if they were antique when they were purchased by the decorator. Nevertheless, they are at least 60 years old! We had them reupholstered in a wonderful gold on gold silk striped fabric and they are extraordinary. Very luxurious feel to the upholstery and a feast for the eyes.

The photos wash out the color a bit as they are truly a gold on lighter gold color. The deeper gold is a satiny finish while the lighter gold color is a matte finish. There is a nubby weave that runs horizontally through the fabric (see last photo closeup to see the texture better). Double welting. The upholsterer did a truly masterful job.

The dimensions of the upholstered areas only are as follows: the seatback is 22" x 26" (back and front of seatback), the seat is 25" x 21" x 6" and the arms are 8 1/2" x 3". The frame dimensions are: back height is 38", from back to front of arm is 14", height from floor to top of arm is 26", height from floor to top of front of seat is 17 1/2", 26" wide at the top and 25" wide at the front of the seat. The seat is 20 1/2" deep to back edge (about 18-19" sitting area).

Small samples of upholstery are available so that you can be assured of color prior to ordering. Email a request for a sample.
