1899 Sir Walter Scott 'Marmion:A Tale of Flodden Field'
This epic poem was written by the British poet,: Sir Walter Scott. There is a photo of the poet opposite the title page where it indicates the copywright date for this edition; 1899.
The plot of the poem involves Lord Marmion and his quest to obtain the love of Clara deClaire who is already engaged. It reads like a medieval romantic story with knights, battles, convents and nuns, and finally victory for the forces of good over his dishonest attempts to disgrace Clara’s fiance. The rhythm of the rhymed verses is lovely and flows from canto to canto. At the back of the book there are bibliography lists of books also made by Henry Altemus. This edition in particular is part of the 'Altemus Illustrated Vademeum Series'. Which contained the most popular works of standard authors. "Handy Volume, Large type editions, with appropriate text and full pages illustrations. Superior paper and printing. Illuminated title pages, etched portraits, and original aquarelle front pieces in eight colors. Full cloth, ivory finish, embossed gold and inlaid colors, with sides titles, boxed, 40 cents.. MARMION is #128 of this series. Some wear to the corners, not bad at all and clean tightly sewn pages inside. Great Book!
