Fabulous Forties summer shirt in a lightweight crinkly orlon nylon blend specialty loop shirt by the fabulous sportswear maker, MacLAREN, established in Pittsburgh, PA in 1946.
The label itself is cool, in red white and blue embroidery with an argyle plaid corner design; the entire label reads:
Fashion Tailored Sportswear by MacLaren 16-16 1/2 Orlon with Nylon" with an XL in a circle.
This is a seersucker finish, with that nice, crisp hand.
This has two curved bottom patch pockets cut on the bias, each with a white plastic button closure. There is a narrow back yoke, a loop for the very top button, and long pointy collars, supporting the 1940s dating.
Measurements for this classic summertime menswear shirt are:
up to 46" chest
27" long (center back of the neck to the hem)
19 3/4" across back shoulders at the yoke
8" sleeve length
6 3/4" from neck point to shoulder point
this translates to a Large to Extra large contemporary size ~ we highly recommend comparing these measurements to a shirt of your own that fits you comfortably to help you with sizing issues. Also, this has NO stretch to it at all ~ keep that in mind when selecting a shirt to compare to, please, and thank you.
Condition: as we were pulling inventory recently, we noticed that the wearer's left sleeve/shoulder has faded a bit; this isn't readily visible, but if you know it's there, you can find it. Pricing lower, accordingly.
I remember my dad had a few of these special lightweight shirts that he would wear to picnics and our huge family reunions in the summer ~ often these semi sheer shirts were worn over plain white t-shirts, or back in the day, white undershirts.
