1800s Glazed Brown Pottery Angled Inkwell Slant Top Desk Turn Open Close

Here is a seldom seen 1800s glazed brown pottery inkwell for a slant top desk. The interior portion of the well has a mechanism that, when turned, seems to open and close the well, although I haven't quite figured that out yet (see pix). The inkwell measures approx. 2 1/2" tall, 2 1/4" across and is in excellent condition with the exception of light surface wear. It is very clean inside but I cannot determine whether or not it has been used. . We are happy to accept lay-a-ways!
