Here is an almost surely one of a kind T & V (Tresseman & Vogt) Limoges France hand painted oval tray / platter, attributed to the artist Sister Mary Gonzaga of the "Sisters Of Providence" of West Springfield, MA. Sister Mary Gonzaga specialized in painting on porcelain. The platter depicts the three buildings of "Brightside", which included an orphanage and hospital. Brightside was founded in 1881 by the "Sisters of Providence". Brightside is still in existance today as a prestigious support system for families and children.
The three buildings hand painted on the platter are "Bethlehem", "Holy Family", and "Our Lady Of Victory". Nestled in between the buildings is a gorgeous bouquet of hand painted pink and white peonies.
The platter has a scalloped and embossed rim with gold trim, and the word "Brightside" signed by the artist in the lower right hand corner. The tray measures approximately 16 1/8" long, and 13 3/4" wide, and dates back to 1895-1907. We purchased this tray at an estate sale, and included with it is an extensive historical outline of "Brightside", descriptions of the buildings, article of Sister Mary's enchanting history, and all in all a very comprehensive history of this magnificent and unique tray. This documentary will be included and sent to the buyer with the tray. The "documentary" had a few incorrect facts, such as the size of the tray, and the flowers appear to be peonies rather than roses. The tray is in excellent condition with only minor gold loss, and a probable professional repair to a small section of the rim, since there is a slight color variation on the back of the the tray.
