This is a simply magnificent, vintage dressing gown! The velvet is so lush. The lavish decoration is so feminine. The condition is beautiful. Bust 38 - 40, waist 28 - 36, hip up to 42 inches.
The lines and decoration suggest it was made circa 1910 to 1917. The label suggests mid 30s. So, this piece is a bit of a mystery. It is GORGEOUS. This gown belongs on the set of Board Walk Empire!
How fun to find such a superb piece in a larger size!
The one piece gown features fluid, rich, rayon velvet in royal purple. The bodice has an inset of fabulous ecru lace that has a gold bullion thread running through it.
The lace front crosses over itself, giving a diagonal line to the bodice. The lace is gathered at the back neckline making it cup nicely at the back of the neck.
The gown closes with a wrap construction. There is an inside belt tie at the waist. There is also a self fabric belt at the outside waist. This belt makes a luscious bow at the left hip.
A lavish flourish of silk flowers is set in perfect elegance below the lace. These are hand made silk ribbon flowers. They are individually hand crafted roses, in pastel pink, yellow, lavender and peach.
There are also wonderful, tiny, amazing blue forget-me-nots blossoms. The green leaves and delicate stems are the perfect accent.
The wrist length sleeves are gathered high at the cap. The sleeves are full and fluid. At the wrist is a wide cuff trimmed with the same lace as the bodice. There is a self fabric loop that holds a fancy, gold tone button.
The skirt is attached to the bodice at the waist line. If falls in rich luxury to the ankle. The gown is unlined.
Condition is fabulous. The rich purple color is vivid! There is no fading. There are no holes, weak seams, stains, tears.
There is MINOR crushing at one side of the back and some slight crush at the back of the sleeves. I do not believe the buttons are original to the gown. Mother of Pearl would be a beautiful match.
This is a wonderful size. The wrap construction makes the gown wearable for : Bust 38 - 40, waist 28 - 36, hip up to 42 inches.
The sleeve length is 25 inches which is a longer than standard length. This length allows for extravagant BLOUSING at the wrist. The length from center back to hem is 58 inches.
The printed label is : Linda / Los Angeles.
