In size extra large, this vintage 40s suit is a magnificent example of post World War II women's fashion. It is a rare find, extreme detailing, amazing fabric andm wonderful condition.
Note: some pictures show glare from the sun that appear as white hexagons. There are NO SPOTS, and NO FADING on either piece. The color is a vibrant, true, all American blue.
Size Extra Large, with exact measurements below.
The Eisenberg, rhinestone brooch shown on the suit is listed separately. It shows to best advantage the lavish cut of the lapels. This brooch is HUGE!
The jacket is so wonderful. The wide, notched collar, extravagant pockets, covered buttons, tailored button holes, and calf length skirt are hallmarks of Post World War II fashion.
After the war fabric was no longer rationed and women's fashion once again became over the top with use of gorgeous fabrics and lavish details.
The jacket is lined in POSH rayon crepe in a coordinated shade of blue. The skirt is unlined, has a waist band with button and side metal zipper.
Label: "100% Re Worsted Gabardine, Lou Schneider Inc. New York." There is even an extra button sewn to the inside of the suit.
This is a hard to find size from this era in such BEAUTIFUL, near mint condition. Measurements in inches are:
Jacket: Bust 38, waist 32, hip 40. Sleeve from shoulder to cuff is 22" (heavier than usual shoulder pads). Total length from center back to hem is 30". The pockets are deep and finished with double, welted accents. Skirt: Waist 30, hip 42, and length 30" with a 1 inch hem allowance.
Other than some inside hand repair work along the shoulder seams lining and some fading of the lining at the inside arm holes, I find this suit to be in above excellent condition.
It is clean with no odor. The color, cut and detail are above wonderful. A rare find you will enjoy for many years.
