This fabulous vintage 1940s suit has all the iconic details of the era. It is a size medium. The navy blue wool fabric is loomed with a lighter blue plaid design. This is exquisite fabric.
It is a lightweight wool of fine quality. The jacket is fully lined in rich rayon crepe.
The wasp waist jacket silhouette is achieved with strong darts. Medium weight shoulder pads add definition to the classic 40s design.
The slashed collar lays beautifully. There are darts at the yoke front. There is detailing at each hip with the VERY detailed flaps. Set in at the diagonal, they give much added interest to the jacket. There are no actual pockets.
The button holes are welt finished. The buttons are blue Lucite with fun details.
The wrist length sleeves are set in. They have a "winged" cuff that were meant to be turned up. However, you could turn then down if you want more length.
This extra use of fabric for this jacket dates the suit to just after World War II. Such extravagant use of material was deemed unpatriotic during the war when fabric was rationed.
The unlined skirt has a waist band and side metal zipper. It is straight cut with a deep, front, released pleat.
The embroidered, silver satin, label is SWANSDOWN.
Both pieces are in immaculate condition. I find no damage at all. The fabric is strong and fresh. The color is vibrant, really lovely.
Measurements in inches: Jacket, Bust 35, waist 26, hip 34, Sleeve length 22.5, across upper back is 15 inches and there are medium weight shoulder pads. Length from center back to hem is 24 inches.
