On SALE during the Ruby Lane Red Tag sale only! Don't miss out. 1960s Couture quality, evening coat in black, wedding weight silk satin and elaborate hand beading. Size is Large, this is a bespoke piece made for a diplomat's wife while traveling in Hong Kong in the 60s.
This stunningly beautiful coat features a small standing collar and Swing Style Silhouette. The rich black silk falls in wide lines from the shoulders with no darts. The collar flows to a smooth line down the front. There is no closure. It is meant to be worn open and allows for size fluctuation.
There is lavish beading at the collar, shoulders and back of the shoulders. Beads are all glass. The work is expert and very 3 dimensional with areas padded for extra definition.
Welt bound pockets show hand finished detail. This hand work is repeated at seams, hem finishes etc.
This is very high end, wedding weight satin. Fabric like this would be extremely expensive today. It is lined in silky black polyester.
Measurements in inches: Bust 36, waist 46, hip 50,Length from center back to hem is 39 inches, Across upper back is 16 - 17 inches (varies because of sleeve construction)
Sleeve length is 26 inches, (meant to be pushed up to or above the elbow,) Hem of sleeve can be turned up about 2 - 1/2 inches for a different look. Hem sweep of 64 inches. Best for size 10 or 12 modern size despite the larger measurements of the bust.
