Men's Vintage Necktie 1950s Advertising Purina Pig Chow Farmer.
A very RARE advertising piece like no other you will find. MINT in the original box, neck tie.
The tie features the figures of PURINA MIKE and Puny Ike. MIKE was the healthy, well fed pig, dressed in cowboy hat and boots. He shoots at Puny IKE a poor little pig who was not fed on Purina Pig Chow.
This comical duo are printed in bright, vivid color on a snow white field. The tie is trimmed with the now famous CHECKERBOARD logo of the company. The tie was issued by Purina for incentive and advertising purposes.
The box shows some minor wear. The tie is MINT! It is 51 inches long and is 4 & 3/4 inches at the widest point.
It is in mint condition, still in the original box. From the early 50s it was given to Purina Farm dealers to promote Purina Pig Chow. This tie should be in a Purina Company museum.
Some history: REAL pigs were given a VERY PUBLIC and competitive, feeding program. The contest was highlighted in the Spartanburg Herald-Journal of South Carolina, in November of 1950 to prove the benefit of a farmer feeding their hogs a supplemental of Purina Hog Fatena. The contest / display was repeated all over the country by different Purina dealers.
A rare item; this tie was part of the massive advertising system Purina used from the company's inception. Founded by William Danforth in 1894 the company began with livestock food, animal health products.

This tie was purchased from the estate of a daughter whose father was one of the first Purina dealers in Idaho.
