Marvelous suit with exquisite details and that iconic late 40s silhouette. In vivid red, rich gabardine this is a size large, bust 36. A fabulous find from the Hollywood era of amazing vintage fashion.
The fabric is the classic wool gabardine from this era. It has lovely, even, fabulous color.
The jacket features a double breast cut with a fitted waist line. The shaped, extra wide, wing collar is cut with the BODY of the jacket; marvelous! The long length of the jacket is a clue to it's post WW II creation. There are classic 40s shoulder pads.
There are self fabric buttons with top stitching and tailored button holes. There are four pockets with top stitch detail and RED rayon crepe lining. Two at the chest and two at the hips. This top stitching is the kind of extra detailing that make this suit top drawer.
There is "flame" or hand top stitching around the collar and down the front of the jacket opening. There are darts at the shoulder yoke both front and back. The front waist has two long darts for a marvelous fit AND Princess seaming in back.
The jacket has WIDE self fabric facing at the openings. It is completely lined in RICH red rayon crepe... another top end fabric.
The skirt has a waist band, side metal zipper and button, is cut in five gores with no darts at the waistline. KILLER silhouette! There are 2 inch slits at the side seam HEMS for ease of walking. The skirt is unlined.
Measurements are taken laying the garment flat and measuring straight across: JACKET: bust 36, waist 30, hip 38, across upper back 15, sleeve from shoulder to cuff 23.5, center back to hem 28.
SKIRT: waist 28, hip 38, length 28 with a 1 & 1/2 inch hem allowance.
There are two LIGHT spots about the size of a pea, or less. They will not photograph. There are two small wanna be holes, one at the shoulder of the suit and is pictured with the end of a pen next to it. It is about 1/4 inch. Another under the left pocket about 1/4 inch. There is one pea size hole on the waist band of the skirt that of course, does not show when the suit is worn.
The fabric is STRONG, not shiny from ironing, and the color is even and vibrant. It is TRUE RED! The lining is fabulous with no damage or stains. There is no odor, weak seams or signs of wear at the collar or cuffs.
This suit has been carefully kept and is in amazing condition. It is beautiful and ready to wear.
