Rare antique sewing book of crochet patterns circa 1915. This is a soft bound book of patterns, printed in Leiden, Holland. (where the Pilgrims lived shortly before sailing for the New World).
This is all printed in DUTCH. Profusely illustrated, with detailed instructions for basic stitches, to complete projects shown in the book.
This book belongs in a museum of needlework. It is in excellent condition with some pages uncut (as it came from the printer). There is some slight chipping and expected paper aging. The back cover has a small hole.
Entitled: VROUWELIJKE HANDWERKEN or strictly translated to FEMALE HAND WORK. From the title page: Handleiding voor Vrouwelijke Handwerken ... or roughly translated to: guide for female hand work.
This book of 64 pages is full of long lost patterns, projects and illustrations. Very detailed.
Some of the patterns: antique shawls / stoles / children's bonnets, sweaters, dresses, bottle covers, afghans, doilies, pillow covers, bed throws, slippers, child's skirt, baby booties and caps, infants shawl, intricate inset lace for lingerie and blouses, collars, Women's Victorian shawl, caps, Intricate edgings, fringes, amazing patterns of long ago.
Please see the pictures for more details of SOME of the projects.
Remember this is an antique book all printed in Dutch. Certainly one for a lace / collectors museum.
Some of the pages have not even been cut after the initial printing as noted above; showing that this book was probably not used. There is irregular color around the edges of the book from the paper aging. Some small spots inside. EXCELLENT condition for a paper item!
