This vintage brooch is a real head turner. It is an extraordinary statement of vintage artisan work. The agate carved into the shape of blooming rose, was made from a single large slice of banded agate. Large, impressive size: 2-1/4 inch x 2-3/8 inch and is 1/4 inch thick.
STUNNING for jewelry collectors or for use in a Game of Thrones ensemble. This would hold a cape or flowing scarf extremely well.
Dating from the late 1930s to early 40s. I feel it is an important example of ethnic work from Mexico.
Fabulous color banding, this natural untreated stone, is semi transparent. The colors show a pattern, from cream to honey to rich gold. The rippled top feels like satin. The back of the stone is polished to a smooth sheen.
It is held with a STRONG AND HEAVY setting. The frame is secure and open in the back. It weighs a total of 41.5 grams and measures a massive; 2-1/4 inch x 2-3/8 inch and is 1/4" thick.
The heavy silver setting includes an accent ball, or large bead of silver. The stone is securely held with prongs. The pin and rotating mechanism are strong and secure. The "knuckle" part of the mechanism is the old fashioned "notch" style.
It is marked on the back: MEXICO SILVER and tests very positive.
Completely natural stone, beautifully carved, lavishly applied silver setting; this brooch shows no damage. I have not polished it to remove patina but, at your request could polish it to a brilliant finish. Just let me know.
