The town of Mauchline, to the west of Scotland, was famed for producing high quality souvenir pieces from its abundant supplies of Sycamore wood. Most of the items were for sale in association with popular spots and sights in England and Scotland. Others commemorate noted places overseas; the United States of America was a popular. This particular Mauchline pen was for sale in France and featured the outstanding Chateau de Chantilly, near Paris. Approximately 8 1/4" long the pen was manufactured around 1880.
