Mauchline Go-to -Bed - Late Victorian

This 2 3/4" high overall souvenir piece, has a maximum girth of 1 1/4" and was made in Scotland for visitors to Dover. It features a couple of transfer line drawings, one of Dover Crescent and one of the cannons defending the castle, ironically entitled "Queen Elizabeth's Pocket Pistol". In pre-electricity days the go-to-bed, containing wax vestas, was kept at the foot of the stairs to be lit before all the downstairs candles, lamps & etc were extinguished. It was carried upstairs to light the candles and lamps upstairs. Condition perfect. Worldwide insured air shipping included in listed price. Nothing extra to pay.
