Coquilla Nut from Brazil, Pipe-Smoker Snuff Box - Victorian

This snuff box is carved from a coquilla nut produced from the Brazilian palm. The physical characteristics of this tropical fruit are highly conducive to decorative and precise carving. It is a compact 2 3/4" in length, and was carved locally around 1850. This one depicts a pipe smoking long-mustachioed traveller with, on his back, a bulky pack. The polishing on his well-rubbed highlights evidence his tactile nature. Worldwide insured air shipping included in listed price. Nothing else to pay.
