Vinaigrette in Silver - Georgian

These exquisite creations were for holding smelling salts or a similar astringent concoction to ward away the obnoxious odours from Georgian streets. Silversmiths cottoned on the idea and introduced a variety of luxurious versions. This one by Joshua Wilmore is in silver gilt and was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1831. It measures just 1 1/8" by 3/4". Its depth of 5/16" contains the silver grill which retains the sniffing-pad soaked with the astringent. Condition excellent. Worldwide insured air shipping is included in the listed price. Nothing else to pay
