Sulphide Pedestal Paper Weight; Madonna & Child - Victorian

This technically complicated paper weight was made in France around 1860. It is believed the maker was Clichy (subsequently absorbed into a Sevres glassmaker).The combination of a medallion-type sulphide encased in scrambled coloured glass is particularly striking.
