Antique French Copper Chestnut Roasting Pan

Some people might mistake this small copper pan with long wood handle for a salesman sample bed warmer, but it's actually a Victorian era fireplace chestnut or bean roaster. Made in Chambery France, the roaster is 11-1/2 inches long including the handle with the covered pan 4-1/2 inches diameter by a little over 1-1/2 inches deep. The hinged lid is reticulated with round and arrow-shape piercings. In the center is an applied bronze medallion of the city of Chambery's coat of arms below a crown and the word Chambery.

It's in typical condition for an item of its age and type, with perfectly appropriate signs of old use and wear. The wooden handle is cracked but still intact. It likely was originally longer - you can pull it out of the metal holder and see that the end was broken off at some point. The rim and lower edge of the pan show some dings and dents and the interior has heat marks from hot coals, not excessive. There is verdigris around the hinge and handle hardware.
