&Carved in tusk ivory, this beautiful mid-1800s French communion gift set of prayer book (missal or missel) with crucifix on the cover; a 'necessaire' or note pad in ivory cover; and the attending coin purse as well, all still in the original fitted and HUGE leather presentation case with domed top - This is the first we've had in ages, and with the large size box beautifully preserved as are its contents, it's a RARE treat! No chips or cracks or flaws in the natural tusk ivory covers, which are remarkably well preserved. Likely Dieppe, France ivory pieces, but we are not certain of it. There are also no breaks, cracks or flaws to note on the beautiful case, either, which is leather-clad and beautifully fitted and domed in that wonderful typically mid-19th century form. I bought this in Paris months ago, but the process for CITES certification for import has been a lengthy and arduous one and so it's only just now arrived from Paris with CITES in tow. A fabulous find - RARE as can be.

Very good to excellent condition, age and type considered. The ivory is splendid, from religious prayer book to coin purse for communicant's tythes (traditional gift for a communion), it's in remarkably good shape for age. Box is splendid - far larger than you imagine, too, at a full 14" in length.
