Antique English Coalport Raised Gold Enameled Dinner Plate Set, 12, For Tiffany & Co
The mark is one used by Coalport between the years 1891-1920, so we know these are Belle Epoch era (The Golden Age) turn of the century period, when newly rich industrialists and rising upper middle class households were raising the fine art of dining to rival and perhaps exceed that of Europe and the UK. That this fine set of 12 dinner plates also bears the mark of Tiffany & Co., New York, tells us the set was made by Coalport specifically for Tiffany and that the set would have been purchased there when they were new. The plates are full large 10.25" diameter dinner plates, and not a single one has a chip or crack to diminish either the value or your enjoyment in owning and using them. The wide band of pink tints only very very slightly to salmon, and is a splendid ground for that rich lustrous hand applied raised gold enamel. The enamels used in these raised gold plates are infused with 15k, 18k and sometimes 22k gold powder. They maintain their high gold brilliance and are highly sought after. This quality of hand decorated plate made today sells in Paris's finest shops for anywhere from 500 euro to 5000 euro per plate. The antique ones are both a magnificently good buy as well as just more elegant. This set will find its way to my own table if you leave them with me very long at all, but I promise I'll be very very careful with them. I will say, our photographer hasn't quite gotten the knack of photographing these at their best, and they are truly more beautiful in person.
Very good condition for age and type. They appear not to have been used. They do not have chips or cracks or hairlines and the only thing bearing mention is that there might be a very light rub to the pink in a few spots. We've tried to be sure to show you for full evaluation, and have taken this very minor flaw into consideration in pricing the set. That said, the set shows beautifully on a dressed table or in cabinet or decorative mount on wall.
