A fabulous find for purse collectors or for you ladies who go out to elegant events and need just that perfect evening bag (Oscars, anyone?). This is a French woven or loomed tapestry purse in finest weave and a mid-1800s motif that's unique and very artistic. Extremely well preserved, the royal purple silk lining and original cord drawstring and 2 opulent silk tassels remain in fully useful condition. They are not deteriorated or shredded as we sometimes find them to be. If only I had somewhere to go to put it to use!
Very good to excellent, as noted, comes to me out of France and is loomed in the manner of Aubusson, Bouvais and Verdure tapestries of centuries earlier, but is a work of art that rather predates the Art Nouveau movement in France (c.1880s) and is just superb. Original thick woven silk lining is in very good condition, as well. And that stunning addition of 2 large tassels - well, magical!
