Heavy sterling silver, each weighs an average of 495 grams, thats an impressive 95.8 troy ounces or 2980 grams total for the six! At current silver prices (April 20, 2011), the melt value on these is approximately $4400!
Fantastic antique to vintage Black, Starr & Frost hallmarked sterling silver 10.5" plates or chargers, a 6pc set in magnificent condition with ornate scrolling floral & foliate pattern! Four of the six have the typical Black, Starr & Frost markings, two bear the diamond, circle & "DH" marking for Dominick & Haff, c. 1868 to 1928 when they were absorbed into Reed & Barton. Gorgeous! I would guess that the set dates to the late 1800s, possibly as late as the turn of the century given the combination of silversmith marks and the dates they were in business. All in fabulous condition, some faint surface marks in places but, as you can see, free of dents, any damage and as fine as can be! Heavy sterling silver, each weighs an average of 495 grams, thats an impressive 95.8 troy ounces or 2980 grams total for the six! At current silver prices (April 20, 2011), the melt value on these is $4468.11! Large ornate interlaced monograms in the centers of each, I'm not great at this but it looks like "ECB" to me (or combination of those initials). A completely scrumptious set, great to go along with your existing fine American, French or European sterling silver table service!
Very good-excellent condition. As noted, there is some light or faint scuffs or scratches in a few places but nothing that could take away from the overall superb appearance of all! No dents, damage or repairs. See pictures for measurements.
