Antique French Opaline Decanters, Thick Enamel Portraits Kids w Dog, Cat
A rather large pair of perfumes, colognes or perhaps even liqueur decanters complete with their original stoppers. Both stoppers and bottles bear the enameled numbers on bottoms that are typical of early to mid-19th century French opaline glass items, and are original to one another. The thick impasto enameled portraits of delightful early 19th century French children are beautifully painted on the glass and remain as charming as when first accomplished. Backsides of the decanters have a single branch of florals as decoration. Size noted in the photos, but these are 6.5" tall as you see them here.
Very good to excellent condition with a single flaw notable and we've covered it well in our photos for your inspection. It is that chip at the backside rim of one decanter, which has been re-gilted. Since it's on backside, it doesn't show when these are placed for display, as you can see. Otherwise a very fine and heavy old opaline glass pair. The paintings are charming, haven't a bit of loss.
