Antique Georgian Era Portrait Miniature, Young Gentleman in Powdered Wig

A tiny masterpiece by any standard, and yet we haven't a signature of the artist. C. 1700s, no doubt, his clothing and his hair fashion (is it a powdered wig of a lawyer, or not?) and top coat, ascot collar place him squarely in the 1770s if he was fashionable, only slightly later, if not. A stunning sidelong pose, with amazing depth to his countenance and hints of his serious youthful nobility. Green eyes match his jacket. Now, allow me to tell you that the expressive beautiful face we've so greatly enlarged is only 1/2 and inch forehead to chin. Imagine the skill of this miniaturist. Surely a noted one, but we haven't a signature to disclose it. You know, I'm in the middle of such a superb book: "The Greater Journey - Americans in Paris" by David McCullough, and it's incredible to read how many artists who grew to later fame painted miniature portraits as a means to put food on the table. I've read this before regarding European and English artists, as well. One wonders which one did this, it's so truly fine. I've kept him in my own collection for quite some time, and now even the miniatures are pushing us out of house and home, so some must go. But I'll tell you, this one will become your favorite, should you add him to your own collection. He's framed in a lovely little dore bronze frame.

Very good to excellent, without a single flaw to note. A small bale up top allows you to hang him, (we like the idea of a padded silk panel framed in a large beautiful wall frame, onto which one's collection of miniatures can be artfully arranged for display, don't you?), or you can wear him as a pendant. His original cover glass has done a superb job of protecting this one through time. A true masterpiece among miniatures!
