Antique Portrait Miniature, 1700s English Military RedCoat in 14k Gold
The miniature portraits and paintings are of 2 types: 1: those painted 'apres' or 'after' the paintings of famous artists whose works on display in Europe's fine museums such as the Louvre) are copied and sold as souvenir miniature paintings for Grand Tour tourists, and 2: those commissioned by wealthy or notable citizens who wanted their likeness made. Ours is certainly a commissioned personal portrait, a one of a kind.
Very good to excellent condition. Closed backing speaks to the high value of the piece of jewelry, and quality of the goldsmith's artistry on this one, too. No dents, damage, and nothing to report to diminish either enjoyment or value. A superb pose, GREAT costume treatment and of interest to military and war history colectors.
Very good to excellent condition, no chips or cracks or warping to the wafer, and the frame is a lovely old one with perforations in the outer rim. Dates to last half of 1700s, perhaps a bit earlier. Measurements noted on photos.
