Gorgeous vintage French 24pc table knife set, Empire style with faux-ivory handles, sterling silver caps & collars and the original stainless steel blades! Yes, these have faux-ivory handles so you get all of the visual appeal but none of the guilt or ethical hassles! Beautiful! A full matching set of twenty-four, twelve in the larger dinner sized pieces and twelve luncheon, entremet or dessert sized knives. Empire style, the silver caps & collars have the quintessential French bow & ribbon motif with what looks like laurel sprigs & even tiny floral accents. Each with the original stainless steel blades, especially nice for use since you won't need to worry about the tarnish and corrosion that you commonly find in the steel blades. We keep looking for truly exceptional antique and vintage table knives to go with our French sterling silver flatware and here is a truly elegant set! Not quite as old as most of our flatware, these date to the early 1900s, have wonderful styling and include a full 12pc service in both the larger (hard to find) dinner size AND luncheon, entremet or dessert size! The knives are the most versatile, and can change the look of your entire table by simply using mother of pearl, or ebony, or horn for example. French sterling tableware, unlike USA tradition, calls for knives to be added to the standard sets of sterling flatware, not necessarily included with it or of the same pattern. In fact, French tradition has it that while sterling is often given at weddings, knives are only given as a statement of 'cutting' or ending a relationship, so for those traditions, knives are almost always packaged and purchased separately, as is the case here. I think the flexibility and variety is fabulous. All beautifully kept in what appears to be the original fitted storage or presentation box. A beautiful set, easy to work into an existing service and as visually pleasing and opulent as can be!
Excellent condition. NO splits or damage to the faux-ivory handles, no damage to note. The box does show its age some but is fully intact with just one side clasp missing and works great for storage (though these would make a superb addition to your larger sterling flatware chest). See pictures for measurements.
