Antique Georgian Faux Tortoise Shell And Paste Gem Hair Comb, Tortoiseshell

A superb antique ornamental hair comb from the Georgian era (c.1780-1830) in blond shell with a silver mount of French paste gems, (faux diamonds). This work is typically French, masters of these faux diamonds of glass which are ususally set in silver. The faux diamonds are good size, and they shimmer and reflect light beautifully just as they ought to. These always make me wish I had long thick beautiful hair to sweep up into a chignon and anchor there with something so beautiful as these ornamental combs. Alas, I can only collect them for you, our customer, instead. This one is nice sized at 4" in length. Isn't it pretty!

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Not a single old paste gem missing from the setting, which is quite rare to find in these old silver sets, and with exception of the very fine stress lines within the shell from the steam-bending process, which are only visible in our enlarged images and scans, really, the old shell is in very fine condition, indeed. No nips, no chips, no bites or cracks. Still has its steamed and appropriate curve, as you can see. A fabulous find!
