Magnificent & RARE MUSEUM Quality matched PAIR of antique Victorian era Black Forest hand carved 32.5" figural "Fruits of the Hunt" themed wall plaques with beautifully detailed & HUGE deer or stag figures, game birds and even the more rare FOX & HARE depictions amidst a stunning grouping of rifles, powder horns and, of course, an array of vines & oak leaf foliage! Aren't these fantastic! Each plaque matching in the shape and style of the back panels but with unique hunt themed sculptural groupings! Each grouping has been painstakingly hand carved from one solid piece of wood, amazing considering the reticulated nature of the carvings, size and masterful level of detail or intricacy! Note the legs of the large deer or stag figures and the realism in the way they all appear to be hanging, fresh from the hunt! The rear panels or plaques also in joined solid wood panels with carved accenting. A truly spectacular museum quality decorative pair, immense size where these are concerned, they really don't come any bigger. The plaques are an impressive 32.5" x 19-20.5" (82.6cm x 52cm) and the carved figures bring the depth to approximately 4". Breathtaking. Don't miss these!
Very good-excellent condition! The outer or front ear tips of both deer or stag figures have been chipped and both are missing the horns (holes there in the tops of the heads where the antlers would have been inserted). Also, the carved side of one plaque, the small branch or vine shaped finial piece, has been chipped off. Amazing condition give the age, none larger and none finer! See pictures for all measurements.
