Antique French Sterling Silver Chocolate, Cream or Tea Pot, Ebony Side Handle
Elegant antique French sterling silver 8 3/4" chocolate, cream or tea pot with 1700s Georgian style turned or carved ebony side handle, Classical or Empire style decoration and double hinged lid! The true chocolate pots always had a smaller opening in the lid, normally under the finial as is the case here, into which a swizzle would be inserted for stirring. Not quite that old, this one bears the post 1838 French Minerve or Minerva hallmarks, the tiny number "1" within those marks designate it as being in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). Silversmith marks are for Louis Coignet, Paris c. 1889-1893. No engraved monograms here, just a beautiful old French sterling silver piece in fabulous condition! Guaranteed to please, don't miss it!
