I recently acquired a collection of fine antique hair ornaments, tiara, combs, and this is a beautiful part of that collection. Fine antique tortoise shell, steamed to the perfect form for a decorative mantilla for your chignon or upswept hairstyle, or just to collect. Whle some of these do have gold adorment, I believe this is adorned in a gilted brass instead. Still, it is in excellent condition and is a stunning piece you'll love to wear or collect. C. 1840-70, its style popularlized in France by the last French Empress, Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III (nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte, and the last Royal couple to reside in the Louvre, where you now view their living apartments as part of the museum). Empress Eugenie was Spanish by heritage, and more a fashion icon than Jackie-O and Lady Di in her own time, influencing all manner of fashion and aesthetic we still enjoy today.

Very good to excellent condition. The tortoise shell is undamaged by bugs except for a small nic along the top of the comb (see our images) and has no cracks or actual chips to detract, nor does it have any warp or loss of its perfect curved form. NOTED: The very tiniest flaw at tip of a tine or two, visible in our images, otherwise it is immaculate. A superb piece!
