Rare to find these fine old etui & 18K gold sewing or embroidery sets still fully intact, still fully functioning and without damage, but here is one. The implements are all original to this elegant Napoleon III era etui or case, casket, and they are all in 18K gold, as well, except the thimble which is a replacement to the set and which is vermeil, instead. Even the bodkin or lace needle is 18K gold. All implements but the thimble have been tested thoroughly and are guaranteed as 18K solid gold. There are, however, no visible marks. Or at least I have not found any. Typically we see the French eagle's head and can confirm the set is French, as well. But that is not the case here. It is possible it is French or perhaps Italian, as those are often not marked this early and in gold. But we do guarantee the set is fine old gold. Parted out, the set would bring as much for the scissors, bodkin stiletto and needle case in 18k gold as our price on this lovely old set. The carved shell outer case and thimble are just free for the taking. We do have other sets in 18k gold if this is not the one to please you. Very good condition throughout. A superb set, with a replacement thimble that is vermeil, but not gold, and all other items in the set are 18k solid gold, marked with the eagle's head, the French control mark for acid tested confirmed 18k gold. The carved case has no cracks or chips, damage, and is shown for your review in our photos. Really nothing else to report. Total weight does include the steel parts, as well. The old steel is also in good form and scissors are very sharp, ready to use, even though you see a little of the age corrosion or staining on the old hardened steel, which is typical in these sets, of course. A superb find - elegant old treasure and very hard to find.
