We're always on the lookout for these wonderful old French shoe snuff boxes, and have several to list this week after our recent buying trip to France and Italy. This is the simplest of the 3, and is all hand carved wood with a slide-off lid, as shown. The form is delightful, the carving is beautifully done and the pique or pin work is really wonderful on this one. Look at that sole - isn't it fabulous! You almost want to display this one upside down, but that the upper of the boot or shoe is also quite gorgeous on its own.
Very good to excellent for age and type (c. 1810-30) this one has no chips or breaks to disclose and is in fine form to display. One tiny nick to it, which we've tried our best to show well and it's on the side front and more represents a little flaw to the wood than anything. Do you see it? A lift in the grain, resulting in a tiny nick. Lid is not warped, and does slide well and fit perfectly.
