Magnificent Antique French Empire Portrait Miniature, a Lady of Napoleon Era - Jewelry of Note
A remarkable work of portraiture in miniature, this painting of a Napoleon era lady of great beauty and style. She wears an elaborately flounced and laced Empire gown in white, a colored shawl evident over one arm, both in the fashionable manner of Josephine Bonaparte. The hair, as well, is an exhibition of Empire style. Her simple and elegant pearls and matching pearl earrings are of note and the aggregate presents a woman of substance and position. I believe she is French, but the style was far reaching and perhaps she is English and only exhibits the influence of the fine French Empire aesthetic in dress and composure, comportment. A truly splendid portrait, all the more so for its size. We have not taken her out of her sealed frame (sealed to keep dust and 'bugs' away from the portrait in order to maintain her superb condition). Perhaps a signature would be visible on the rim of the painting, or noted on the backside, but we'll leave its discovery to our buyer. The frame is entirely of wood, is original to the painting and has a gilt inner 'mat' which sets off the painting beautifully. Protected under glass, it is a fact that we can't truly show you all the detail on this painting on thin natural wafer wafer since these are photos only and not scans. The painting is even more beautiful in person, the photos having lost some of the exquisite detail captured by the artist.
Very good to excellent, not a flaw to note in painting, thin natural wafer wafer, or glass, and only the wear and patina of age notable on the fine old wooden frame. A remarkable work of art!
