RARE Antique French Palais Royal Sewing Etui, Porcelain Plaque and Jewels: Pearl & Coral
A most charming little ormolu casket mounted on a plinth of alabaster, and sporting on top a hand painted Sevres miniature plaque and jeweled further with a couple of nice sized natural baroque pearls and some bits of red coral, this most unique and opulent piece is further fitted out as a sewing etui. Interior still has the original silk velvet fitted platform with recess for a thimble (and antique one is within, though perhaps not the original) and room for embroidery scissors, as well. The scissors are not with the etui at this time, and can be readily found if you're willing to wait a bit for the perfect old set to come forward. Always fun to have a project, right? The etui is c. 1780 - 1830, no later. A most spectacular little treasure!
Very good to excellent condition, with only the absence of scissors to keep it from being just perfect. No losses otherwise, and even those beautiful natural pearls and the red coral remain unscathed by time. The ormolu has some layering of metals so it has accents in silver as well as the dore or gold. A really beautiful and ornate one, this!
