Antique Travel Valise, Suitcase, with Fitted Jars, Brushes, Mirrors of English Sterling and Tortoise Shell

The condition of this suitcase and it's interior and vanity items would lead one to believe it has never been used, it's in such fine condition. An early 1900s case that's more a suitcase than the usual smaller valise-sized vanity cases we usually see. A traveler could certainly pack all they needed for a week in this one (or for a weekend for we more modern acquisitive types). The leather is thick, opulent and has a surface that is somewhat like shagreen, but this is not a shagreen case. A case and set so superb, they'll be more than tempting to actually use on your weekends away, or on your own Grand Tour of Europe as your carryon bag. My photographer got to it before I'd had a chance to wipe away that whitish swoosh on the case top, but I can assure you it's not there now. Sorry for his haste, or my neglect of a bit of 'dusting'. The set is clean, undamaged, and is ready to use.

The set is very good to excellent in condition, surely partly owing to the outer canvas cover, original to the valise. The outer canvas cover shows some age, and evidence of having been in storage, but it does not have any odor to deal with, nor does the set, itself. There is some shrinkage to the canvas resulting in us not being quite able to get the snaps done up, yet it certain has done its job well over time. The handle, often damaged in these old cases, is excellent, strong. The original locks are bright brass, reminiscent of the fine Hermes cases in France, yet we think this is entirely English made. The silver inlays or pique work on the faux shell is marvelous, and these decorative panels are set into English Hallmarked solid silver, as you can see from the hallmarks we've captured, all english. Two perfume/cologne bottles, a powder jar, a hairbrush for a woman, hairbrush for a gentleman, a clothing brush and comb - all in excellent condition. The little cloth pouch holds the 2 keys that do fit the locks. All you need is a weekend to travel!
