Antique French Sterling Silver 4pc Breakfast or Christening Set, Tumbler & Flatware in Domed Leather Case
Wonderful antique French sterling silver 4pc breakfast or Christening set including timbale or tumbler, 3pc flatware setting for one and a gorgeous domed black leather case! I just love French silver and these fabulous old fitted cases! A treasure within and they sure understood the importance of presentation! The French Minerve or Minerva hallmark on all pieces, the tiny number "1" within that marking designates them as being in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). Silversmith marks "LG" on the flatware are for Lapparra & Gabriel, Paris c. 1902-1923. The tumbler, although an obvious match in pattern and having the same monogram, is marked with an "AL" silversmith mark, likely for Louis Aucoc. Louis Aucoc, a premier quality Paris silversmith, was established in the beginning of the 19th century and was the favorite jewelry and silver supplier to the house of King Louis Philippe, the family of Orleans and also Napoleon lll and his Empress Eugenie. It is possible that the 3pc flatware is not original or were replaced later. The box is marked "L. Aucoc Aine" for L. Aucoc, 6 rue de la Paix, Paris c. 1840-60. A lovely set, rare to find in such a beautiful box and guaranteed to please!
Good-very good condition. No damage or flaws to the flatware other than some light surface scuffs. The box is also in as near pristine condition as one could hope for. The tumbler does have some ripples on the surface and a few dimples. See pictures for weights and measurements.
FABULOUS antique French sterling silver is getting harder to find. Don't wait too long!
