Superb Hand Painted 1820s French Portrait Miniature, Gutta Percha Frame

Remarkable & rare early 1800s French hand painted portrait miniature on thin wafer, a commissioned portrait of an unidentified woman and beautifully displayed in the original and rather unique gutta percha frame! Circa 1820-30s, we've dated this one based on the frame, when gutta percha was most prominent. The portrait is superb, with impressive detail and almost an oil on canvas look or texture. One of several truly marvelous old portrait miniatures that Susan brought back with her from Paris, be sure to look at all and watch as we add all of the treasures from her trip in the weeks ahead! Thanks!

Very good condition! As you can see in the enlarged scan of the painting itself, there is a slight bit of flaking in spots but the piece is in overall superb shape. No chips or damage to the frame, just signs of gilding loss. See pictures for measurements.
